Charm technology has been adopted worldwide by the dairy industry to screen residues in milk quickly and accurately. Charm CowSide II® is a method detecting the presence of antibiotic compounds in raw and ultra-pasteurized milk. This inhibition test has greater sensitivity to beta-lactams, sulfonamides, aminoglycosides and especially tetracyclines, making it the test closest to the EU MRL regulatory thresholds. It is a simple test, ready to use and which gives a result in 3 hours. It is for this reason that it can be used in laboratories and farms.
The method is based on the proliferation of microorganisms in a culture medium containing a colorimetric pH indicator. The proliferation of microorganisms in the culture medium in the presence of milk causes the colorimetric indicator to change from blue to yellow. Milk samples interfering with colorimetric change are considered positive.

The Charm EZ® System is a combination incubator and digital readout device that has been specifically developed to use a wide range of ROSA® Rapid Tests. The system instantly identifies the color of the test strip and automatically adjusts the incubation time, temperature and corresponding calibration. At the end of the incubation time, the test is read automatically. The combined reader-incubator therefore allows analysis in just 1 step. The results are interpreted digitally and are stored in the device's memory and/or sent in real time to a computer.
